1-Danier Leather is a great Canadian store that specializes in leather clothes. There are occasional non-leather items in stock, but leather is what Danier is famous for. If you are on a budget, and are struggling to find reasonably priced leather coat and jacket, look no further and come to Danier. This store carries seriously cute designs which I can describe as classic with the twist. In addition to jackets and coats, Danier carries leather vests, skirts and dresses. They are for serious rocker chicks, and since I am not one, I prefer to check out Danier's selection of skirts and dresses made of material rather than leather. The selection is limited, but there are occasional interesting looking items.
The leather jacket I bought at Danier several years ago still looks good as new. I attribute this fact to good quality leather and great craftsmanship. A good leather conditioner doesn't hurt either.
1-If you're looking for a new leather jacket, Danier Leather outlet is where you want to be. For $50-$100, it's a pretty good deal for a real leather jacket. Of course, not all their jackets are that cheap. It could go up to about $500, I think, depending if it's new and a really big one or not.
The whole place is stocked with leather and suede fashions for men and women, most of them being coats. They're pretty nice too, but I resisted trying one on, because I knew it would make me want to buy it. Of course, most of the jackets are in a brown or black shade, but I did see some nice white ones, and bright colours like tan and red too.
2-There's a bias against Danier probably because it's not on the forefront of the fashion world. They're not bad jackets per se.
3-They do have some trendy stuff, but most people probably want something they can wear for a while-not something for one season that might look weird months from now.
4-I have a Daniel jacket (no lining) and really like it. I would totally get another one @ the right price.
5-My current winter bomber jacket is from Danier and I've been happy with it since I bought it (about 3 years ago). My only gripe is they use a softer leather than I like (it tends to look very worn in about a month of use) but their prices are pretty good for the product they provide and one wouldn't feel bad about ditching the coat in a couple of years and getting a new one.
6-I bought my current jacket from Danier on boxing day, during there "Everything is atleast 50% off" sale. I got a jacket that usually retails for $595 for roughly $300. Its a DAMN NICE jacket too, had it since boxing day and wear it everyday, and its still not showing any signs of wear. Comfortable, and very warm. It's a little on the heavy side, but I like that. I'd get a picture to show you even after almost 2 months, the condition is still MINT, but my parents took my camera to India with them.I also have a full length leather trench coat that I bought from Danier almost 20 years ago and it is still in awesome condition (but then their leather was much harder and wore better).My experiences with their clothing have been great - they get my recommendation.
7-I've got a 3/4 length "dress" jacket from them that has to be five years old now. The only problem I've ever had was a couple of years back I caught the pocket on a banister and ripped it. Brought it back to Daniers and they repaired it. I defy you to tell me which side was ripped.

While techniques vary, the leather is usually treated with a thin coating of some type of alcohol based agent, then subjected to a series of steps aimed at creating wrinkles and creases in the grain. This pre-distressed leather may also undergo treatments that effectively scrape the material to lighten the color in random areas.Distressed leather products are often considered more visually appealing than pristine leather products. For this reason, vendors are normally able to sell items made with distressed leather for a higher price than leather that is in a pristine condition. 4) Color. Traditional, genuine patent leather doesn't come in the wide range of colors poromeric leather comes in. Look for dark and traditional colors such as black, brown, red, navy, and the occasional jewel tone with black being the most common and the others rarer. Pastels would be a rarity, or they would be poromeric as it is difficult to dye leather lighter than its natural color unless it goes through further manipulation or treatment. PVC can also come in just about any color.
5) Date. The older an item (pre mid 60s) the more likely it is to be genuine patent leather. But it doesn't mean it is.
6) Pin test. If you absolutely have to know, you can take a hot pin and gently and evenly poke a tiny hole in the leather. If the pin melts or goes through the top layer only, its leather. If it goes all the way through...its not. Not recommended unless you must, as it will damage the item. It is true that "patent leather" has entered the colloquial dialect with accepted usage covering both actual patent leather, and any glossy vinyl that mimics it. It is not merely a matter of sellers shying away from what is accurate for fear of no one finding their items; most of the educated public does not differentiate themselves. It requires both the disclosure of the seller and the inquisitiveness and education of the buyer to make sure that what you see is what you get. If you do not think your item is genuine leather, please clarify in the listing by indicating as such.
Believe it or not, there are folks who prefer to look for poromeric or PVC for the color selection, or for the qualities of the material. Buzzwords such as "patent leather-like vinyl" will help steer potential shoppers to your listings, while also giving you the opportunity to educate and to clairfy that it is poromeric. "Wet Look" vinyl is a good way to describe PVC, and it is searched too! Searching "genuine patent leather" in descriptions will help narrow down the search if its leather you seek.

How many times have we seen the advertisement claiming “Genuine leather” Or “Quality Leather”. Just what is Genuine Leather, or Quality Leather, how do I know I didn't get ripped off? I often get questions at Hot Stuff Leather and Lace about the quality of the leather we have, and if it real leather, or is it real patent leather. First, what is leather? Leather, simply stated, is the skin of an animal. So as long as the material is made from the skin of an animal, they can claim “Genuine Leather”. Quality leather is a different story. When you finish reading this, you will be able to look at a leather garment and tell immediately if it is quality or not. The patchwork design is the first indication that this is poor quality leather. The patchwork design is because they swept the scraps off the floor from the manufacture of other garments, fed them through a machine to sew the scraps together, created another sheet of leather and made more garments. The leather itself could made of various grades. Let's talk about grades of leather. There are 3 primary grades of leather:
Grade 1 or “full-Grain” clear, supple, and clean, is consistent in color, has the highest yield of over 90% and the surface is smoothest.
Grade 2 is less consistent in color, has a yield of 78% and the surface is slightly imperfect.
Grade 3 is a blotchy and very inconsistent in color, has a yield of 40% and the surface is very imperfect and will feel stiff, partly from the excessive coating needed to hide imperfections. These grades are standard no mater what type of animal the leather came from. There are a lot of different types of animals that are used for leather. Everything from lamb to cow, and alligator to Ostrich. The two most popular for use in jackets are lamb and cow. For the sake of this article we will discuss these two.
LAMBSKIN The softest, thinnest, most supple skin. A Buttery texture and finely grained. Stretches well and tends to reshape after wearing .
LAMB TOUCH COW or COW NAPPA
Thin, Soft and supple - close in look and feel to lamb but is not lamb. A Smoother finish and finer texture to cow hide.COW HIDE
Very tough wearing and durable. Heaviest of the cowhides. Very noticeable texture skin and grainy. Mostly outerwear - especially jackets. Weekend casual, ready-to-wear.
Ok, now we know the different grades, and types of leather, how do we know we got the good stuff? First, use your eyes. A very good way to tell if you’re purchasing a garment of HIGH-quality leather is to look at the seams and needle marks. If they seem to be a different color than the garment itself this could mean that the garment is dyed on the surface only – surface-dyed as opposed to aniline-dyed leather (dyed on both sides). Surface-dyed leather is much different to aniline-dyed leather because surface-dying is like adding a coat of paint to wood. It merely covers up the wood’s natural surface and defects. Aniline-dyed leather is like adding varnish to wood, varnish allows the woods natural beauty to shine through by penetrating the surface instead of covering it up. The natural beauty of high-quality leather is visible through a sheer, rich aniline dye. Check the items for overall color and craftsmanship. While all skins contain some natural marks, there should not be any large unsightly blemishes on the piece you are inspecting. A good manufacturer of leather apparel will not use leather of 2nd or 3rd grade.
Next, use your nose. The garment should smell like leather, not chemicals. And while we are on the subject of chemicals, you want leather that has not been treated with Azo Dye. Azo Dye is toxic and has been linked to many skin reactions. And lastly, feel it. Is it soft to the touch, is it smooth. It should be free of any bumps and it should flex easily. It should not be stiff and hard to bend.And now about Patent Leather, Vinyl, and PVC:
It is surprising to me how many people do not know that there is a difference. In fact I have had to list my patent leather as vinyl and PVC just so that our listings will show in the search. First big difference is that Patent Leather is actually made from leather, vinyl and PVC are not.
Poromeric Imitation Leatheris what a lot of folks refer to as "patent leather" when actually it isn't. It has a high glossy finish and is a petroleum product or a vinyl. Because of the material, color can be more consistent in the manufacturing process and a greater flexibility produces every color of the rainbow and then some. The vinyl is typically backed with polyester.

1-Fit:
I'm 6'-1" at 185lbs. Usually a size 44 so that is what i ordered. Arm length is perfect. With the elasticized leather from the armpit to waist, the jacket will expand or contract some for you waistline. As another review mentioned, I too wish it were an inch longer in the torso. Two inches would even be better.
Armor:
Shoulders and elbows are good. Back is just thin foam. I have a backpack 95% of the time, otherwise I would upgrade. The leather is thick and would hold up well in a slide, yet it is finished well and soft to the touch.
Comfort:
Ribbing on shoulders allows for a great range of arm movement. Comfortable in both warm and chilly riding temps. Below 45deg out and I will likely switch to my textile. Haven't been in temps above 80deg, but at 80, with the vents all open, i was comfortable as long as I wasn't stuck at a long red light.
Dampness from fog or very light rain had beaded off. Not planning to test heavy rain.
Pockets:
Darn near perfect.
The "hand warming" pockets on the outside are small. I keep meter change in one and a bridge toll reader in the other. Empty, you can just fit your fist in. But, they are small to accommodate the giant full chest pockets. Pens, keys, tire gauge, etc. They are each 12" deep and 6" wide.
Inside the jacket, on each side, is a small elastic dump pocket. There is also one vertical zip pocket on the inside left chest.
Style:
A nice blend of classic and modern. My favorite thing about this jacket, and the main reason I bought it, is the lack of advertising. Not a single name or logo can be found on the outside of this jacket. Who wants to pay more to be a rolling billboard?
It is now my go to jacket for all but two scenarios. Rain and road trips.
2-I ride everywhere. One day I may be dressing formally, sometimes I'm in the rain, sometimes in the searing sun. I carry everything I need to survive on my person or on my bike. I need a jacket that is durable, flexible and stylish enough to meet these needs. This jacket fits the bill. This is my review after over a year of daily use.
I always needed a jacket with heavy leather, lots of pockets, and no garish logos emblazoned over every last inch. Something you can wear to the girlfriend's parents place for dinner that doesn't look like you just came from a Moto GP race. Something you go from dinner to the track and not feel under protected.
I had a chance to try a size 40 before buying. Revzilla was out of stock, so I found another retailer selling the jacket for cheaper, so I called up Revzilla and, awesome as always, they matched the price.
The jacket is quite heavy but the pockets allow plenty of ventilation. It has oodles or pockets; I carry a dozen keys, couple sets of ear buds, bags for shopping, eye drops, scarf, pain relief spray, knife and other tools and it all fits comfortably.
The armor is decent on the shoulders and elbows, but the back protector is a joke. Toss that junk out and get the Klim D30 insert. Requires some cutting to fit but offers far better protection.
After a year the zipper teeth started to disintegrate. I contacted River Road customer service and they offered to replace it at no cost. Having worn the jacket in, I was attached to it, so they agreed to take it in and repair the zippers with better ones at no charge. So 1+ for their customer service too.
3-Sleeve cuffs are a little large. Can take jacket on and off with out up zipping sleeve. When adjust to second snap clip it is bunched up.
4-Overall I love this jacket and all its features, and expect it will offer many more years of heavy use, at which time I hope it is still in stock so I can get another of the same.
5-I ordered this jacket in a size 44 per the Geeks recommendation. Im 5'10" 190, 45 in chest, 33 pant size , athletic build. It was so tight I could not bend my arms to put on my helmet. After removing all of the liners and armor (which is thick and chunky feeling) It fit nice. I cant imagine riding this in the summer... it is crazy heavy and would be terribly hot. The perf is hardly noticeable and would do next to nothing. The styling is great however and I really dug the right breast pocket. Great jacket for the Nords.
